Aival is leading a £1m Innovate UK grant for Trustworthy AI
We are excited to announce that we are leading a £1m consortium grant for scalable solutions for evaluating radiology AI in the NHS

Kanwal Bhatia
Founder
Aival is working with NHS Lothian and NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde to assess scalable solutions for validating clinical AI tools before procurement and while in use on patients. Working in conjunction with AI platform marketplace Bayer Calantic, AI developers Annalise, InferVision and Qure, and with the University of Edinburgh, we will investigate the how assurance software can facilitate faster adoption of the best AI technologies.
This project has been funded by the UK Government through the UKRI Technology Missions Fund to help to accelerate the adoption of responsible AI across the economy. https://www.ukri.org/news/19-million-to-accelerate-trustworthy-and-responsible-ai/
Dr. Rishi Ramaesh, Consultant Radiologist and Clinical Lead: "This project is of vital importance to the NHS Scotland’s mission of delivering safe and trustworthy AI within the health service and addresses two areas of unmet need firstly in early lung cancer detection and secondly in early diagnosis of strokes and other serious neurological conditions."
Luciana D’Adderio, Edinburgh University academic and AI evaluation and assurance expert: “AI technology is achieving widespread deployment across healthcare settings, yet its assurance has not received the rigorous attention it demands. The current frameworks for evaluation and monitoring fall short in adequately assuring AI systems, primarily because AI represents a fundamental departure from the traditional technologies these frameworks were designed to assess. There is an urgent need for innovative tools and technologies for AI assurance, which themselves must undergo thorough evaluation and validation. This critical challenge forms the cornerstone of our groundbreaking project”.
